Auditions for FASS 2013 will be held on Wednesday January 9th, Thursday January 10th, and Friday January 11th, 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm, beginning in HH 119. You only need to come to auditions one of those nights. Please allow for at least a hour for the whole audition process explained below.
You don't need to prepare anything for the acting or dancing auditions. We'll provide you with some lines to read and some dance steps to do. For the singing audition, you can come with a few bars of your favourite song to sing, or you can always sing "Happy Birthday."
Be sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes for the auditions, especially the dance audition. Also bring your schedule for the month of January. We'll need to know when you're available so we can schedule rehearsals accordingly.
When you first arrive at auditions, we'll need you to fill out some forms online. We'll need to know your contact information, schedule for the month of January, whether you're interested in appearing on stage, playing in the band, or working back stage. We'll also take your picture so we can remember who you are.
If you'd like to appear on stage, after you've filled out your forms you'll start the audition process. In small groups, you'll be taken to acting, singing, and dancing auditions. We'll start off with a few warm-ups to get you in the mood. In the acting audition, you'll be asked to read some lines from a scene from this year's show. In singing auditions, you'll need to sing a few bars of a favourite song for our music director. And in our dancing auditions, our choreographer will take you through a few moves to get an idea of what you're capable of.
Yes! Everyone who auditions for FASS will get a part. You'll find out what part you get at the read-through.
If you can't make it to auditions, get in touch with the Stage Manager. We should be able to make arrangements to get you involved.
You should come to auditions too! We still need to know about your interest in the show. The Music Director and Tech Director will all be around to talk to you about how to get involved.
The amount of time you need to commit will depend on how big of a role you get and your participation in the Opening and Closing numbers.
When you come for auditions, we'll ask whether you want a small, or large role. A small role will appear in one scene with a few lines, or possibly in the vignettes. A large role will appear in one or more scenes, play a major role, and possibly sing a song. Each scene usually has a one-hour rehearsal each week for three weeks. We try to schedule rehearsals for one character on only one night when possible, but we can't always do that. Scene rehearsals are scheduled between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm Monday to Friday. There are also scene singing, dancing, and fighting rehearsals in the evening, and if you are doing any of those you will have to plan for those as well.
The rehearsals for the Opening & Closing song and dance numbers are on Saturdays and Sundays in January as well. These rehearsals usually go from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We try to have everyone in the Opening and Closing numbers. If you want to be in the Opening or Closing numbers you need to be available either both Saturdays (Jan. 19th and 26th) or both Sundays (Jan. 20th and 27th). You are required to either be in at least one of Opening or Closing numbers or spend some time helping with tech at least one day each of weekend tech times.
Everyone in the show needs to be at tech weekend, on the weekend before the show. You will need to be there to participate in the cue-to-cue, a tech run and a dress rehearsal. These will go from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm both days.
There will be a dress rehearsal on the Sunday of Tech Weekend and Monday of the week of the show.
You will obviously need to be there for the shows on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Check the calendar for the call time that you have to be there.
After the shows, there's nothing to do but party and sleep!
